Default Floor repair

Having trouble finding floor or patch panel for my xj. Has anyone ever fiberglassed thier floor? I have done this long ago but not sure if it would hold up very well.

92 XJ getting worked on. I have already made rock rails out of 3"x6" tube 3/16" wall I cut out rocker to make room for tube. Made lower door repair panel out of 12ga steel.
Cut out fenders and have a 3" lift. want to put at least 33" tires on some time. Going to add frame stiffeners and I going to build new rear bumper and front bumper.

If I could get my pics resized I will post them.

Thanks Matt

www.quadratec sells floor patch panels. Amazon also has a full passenger floor section available.

From what i have read Q'Tech will price match patch panels, there are cheaper sources out there.. but i dont have a link offhand. Maybe someone will come along and proivide it..

What i did for my floors was cut out the real bad spots then take a wire wheel to the floor, then painted it with por-15. I then rivited in patch pieces of galvanized steel and seamed sealed it and used self etching primer on it. I plan on Rhino lining it in a few weeks . I think it turned out great i bet it would look fine as long as you rhino line it.

Cut out the bad spots. Clean up the residual rust with a wire wheel or sand blaster. Treat with your favorite rust inhibitor. Then break out the posterboard to make some templates. Trace the posterboard to sheetmetal, then cut out your patch pannels. Next get a rubber mallot and contour your pannels to the inside of the jeep floor, then mark the holes in your floor from the underside of jeep, to mark locations of unibody rails. Drill 3/16" holes around your patch pannel every few inches. and allong the unibody rails. prime the aria of the pannel that will be enclosed in the unibody when welded in. Weld in your pannels, seam seal them, prime them, paint them. Done.

hey, i had major gaping holes in my floor all over, and i fiberglassed it...first i removed all of the rust, and then primed it, then i used either 16ga or 24ga sheet metal from home depot and kind of formed that into the floor and riveted it down really good....this was all just to give my fiberglass a solid platform. i work with boats in the marine industry so i like to think i've got a lot of experience with the stuff. try to do a good job i with the glass, i used the heaviest mesh mat for strength and industrial grade marine resin. after the fiberglass was all hard and dry i rolled some bed liner over the whole interior. ...i hope this helps, moral is YES YOU CAN FIBERGLASS YOUR JEEP i think its the way to go personally.

Ok Thanks to everyone for the input.

I am going to order some floor pans and weld them in. I think I will be welding on my jeep more and if I would fiberglass it then I would not want to weld to it.

Thanks Matt

thats what my floor looked like... if your good with welding the sheet metal by all means weld it instead of fiberglassing it. i just glassed mine because its what i know how to do and i knew it would work.

After I fixed mine with sheetmetal I sealed it and coated it with undercoating. looks great and never put the carpet back in cause thats what kills floors in the first place.

I've fixed some pretty nasty holes in my XJ with fiberglass. For long spans where the fiberglass would sag while drying you can lay down some thin plywood(glass or shellac that of course from the underside to prevent rot) Works perfect and I no longer worry about rust there. If you want a pretty fix this is certainly not it. If you want a long term fix, this isn't it either. It'll work fine for a few years I'd say.

i was doing some google searches on replacing floor pans and came across this again. for anybody who finds this thread again, in hindsight, a couple years later, i wouldn't suggest fiberglassing the floor pans. some of the fiberglass would delaminate from the sheet metal (probably from the unibody flexing and what not) and water would get in there and rust the sheet metal right out quick. it looks like i'll be redoing everything.
