Default Fixed my rust on my roof!

Had my first endeavor with fixing rust. This was the first of 3 spots on my roof and thankfully the worst.

Started out as this, thought it was just some bubbling so I busted out the wire wheel on my drill and ground it down as far as I could.

Unfortunately leaving this (after a quick coat of primer)..

Went out and bought some rust disolver and put about 5 coats on letting lots of it drip under aswell. After all the coats, the rust had turned black.

During..

Ready for my primer and to start patching.

To fill the hole, I used fiberlgass resin and a fiberlgass mat. Cut to size, put some resin on the body, put the mat on and then layed in a nice coat of resin.

Another layer of resin and another small piece of mat for the large hole and sanded more.

After that, a niece thick coat of filler.

Pretty pleased with the results considering I've never actually done anything like this. I know idealy cutting out the rust and re-welded in a new piece would be best but I can't weld, have no close friends that can weld so this should do. Even if it holds of the rust for another year or two that's fine. Just got to get some color on it now which should be tommorow or the following. (still have to sand some in the rain gutter though) Took around 3 hours total.

Next up, two small ones not through sheet metal atleast in the front. Then I have to tackle my floor, not stoked on that.

Opinions always welcome!

Smile Good Job.

Good job ,now seal that sucker with a good top coat to keep moisture out. For floor panel may I suggest pop rivets and sealant?

damn turned out nicely. x2 on the pop rivets and sealant. did that before and worked out fine for a long time. you can even work some bondo over that and smooth it out ot cover it up if its on the body.

Thanks guys! After reading some other peoples threads on here I think riveting the panels in place will be the way I'm heading.
