I ripped out every thing down to the heating unit(it still works) and then i built from there out. The best measurements i could get for you were the center stack comes out 7 1/2 from the fire wall and the rest of the dash comes out 4in from the fire wall. As for width of the center stack it is 17in at the top and 11in at the bottom. My idea for the dash came loosely from the November 2008 issue of Four Wheeler magazine pg 65 pic 4, thought it looked kinda cool. I hope this helps, I took a whole bunch of pictures of the project but i cant seem to figure out how to shrink them to post them, as soon as i can figure it out ill post them. As for lowering your seats im in the process of doing that, I built a cage in mine and my one buddy is worried he's going to hit his head so im going to lower mine and tie it into the cage, Ill let you know how i did it as soon as i get it done

I had a couple of the gauges already and the other ones just came from auto zone
A total replacement - and done rather well!
I plan to redesign most of the IP in my 88 to accept aircraft gages.
have you replaced any of the gauges with aircraft gauges?? im going to school to be an airplane mechanic and ive been thinking how cool it would be to do that...let me know....
but good job! dash looks good!

I plan to redesign most of the IP in my 88 to accept aircraft gages. I had my pilot's ticket before I had my driver's license, I like the look of aircraft gages, and I'm an information junkie when it comes to vehicle operation.
So, I'd be redoing the instrument bucket and doing an eyebrow housing in the overhead at least (either straight fibreglas, or fibreglas with a reinforcing sheetmetal panel,) but I hadn't thought of ripping out the bulk of the IP and starting over. Got measurements?
Although, I may do mine in 1/4" plywood or so, with a stupid number of coats of urethane varnish (and painting the cabin side of the thing, probably OD to match what I'd like to do to the rest of the rig.) Should go fairly well, since I also plan to pull the carpet and probably Herculine the inside, and pull the inside trim panels and replace with sheet aluminum and Dzus fasteners.
Anyone know how to lower the seats in the XJ offhand? I'll need the extra headroom if I'm going to build the eyebrow housing, and I am inclined to remember that the XJ seats sit directly on the floor (most unibody cars have "seat risers" under the seats, so you've got some fiddle room...)

Interested in something similar. You still have it? If so, how'd it hold up?
I know this thread is over two years old. Just optimistic the member is still around:-)
