My "cold air intake".

IMO, if you've got a cone filter in the engine bay it's going to be worse than stock.

Exactly... Preheater tube. Required in some states for emission inspection. At least it is in Cali. Learned the hard way.

What did you do with the other tube coming from the engine into the air intake after doing the cold air intake?

Who are you asking this question to and what tube are you talking about? The CCV tube? You can either make an oil catch can (recommended), pipe it in to the intake tube, or remove the nipple and instal an oil breather (which would probably be messy and spray oil everywhere.

Definitely messy. PO of my 90 had a ricer looking cone filter on the air intake w/ a breather on the valve cover. Oil all over the top of the engine and bottom of hood. I found a factory air box for mine. Quieted the air intake down too.

Yeah, I've got a factory airbox I'll be using to make a cowl snorkle for mine eventually. One of the many projects.

Cheap cone filter mounted up to a modified Grand Cherokee CAI. Had to cut down the intake tube and then also trimmed and modified the "heat shield" a little. Noticeable difference for the "seat of the pants" feel. I also have a spectre intake on my 86 MJ, fortunately i got mine for free.

Will be making a custom intake for my 87 toy MJ, removing the heater box and running the intake into the cab to mount the filter under the dashboard. Dedicated wheeling rig so i'm not concerned about the heat anymore.

It's basically just bent sheet metal. Go find a washing machine and cut the sides off of it, then get yourself some cardboard to make a template out of. Transfer the template to the sheet metal, then cut n bend. VOILA.

Here's a couple of pics if it will help ya
