Nope, you want to leave the shape the same and just increase the length of the "walls" on the outside of it. That indent is what centers the spacer at the top, and doesn't need to be changed.
Nice...i know sheets if that stuff is kinds pricey I can't imagine blocks of it being cheaper then the cost of buying them off if ebay.
The flat side us suppose to go against the inside if the inner fender.. Gives it a lil more clearance.
