Default Center Console Fab for 96 Cherokee. Need help relocating the E Brake

[/IMG]The notorious cup-holderless console has to go. I have a few electronic devices (siren and radio) that need to be mounted and I want to add cupholders to my jeep. I have decided to remove the center console and fabricate a new console 10" wide X 9" tall X 38" long. This console will be made out of masonite and trim board. I am taking a lot of pictures so when I am complete, I'll get them all on here.

THE HARD PART IS....

I want to relocate my E brake to the floorboard on the left side of the driver seat or anywhere else that someone can suggest. In my limited knowledge of mechanics and braking systems, it stands to reason that all I would have to do is remove the braking assembly, cut a new hole in the floorboard where I want it, and reroute/reattach the cable to the assembly. Can anyone help or offer any suggestions?

I dont know if it will work or not but you may want to try the ebrake from a Comanche. The first problem will be finding one they dont make replacments that I have found and you will need to find one in a Junk Yard. But there are several out there if you look hard.

Good Luck

have you looked into the console in the zj with a little fiberglass and apoxy, i believe also the center console in the old school s-10 blazers could be fabed to work (plus some have built in cooler...awesomeness) i have been looking into the cup holder option too. but if you are set on moving the e brake, party on, let me know if you get it ... that would be pretty cool on the left

What about the foot e-brake from like an older chevy truck mounted on the kick panel, or a hydraulic line lock? Just throwing ideas out there.

You can also look into the Toyota, hand e-brake... mounts under the dash. The comanche one would work too.. probrbably be just about a bolt in affair.

Line Locks Should not be used for e-brakes.... electrical parts do fail

I LOVE the idea of the footbrake, just NO idea of how to make that a reality! Any tips? Can the E brake be moved by simply re routing the cable?

I wish I had more info on it but the Hydraulic line lock was in a wrecker I used to drive, You flipped a lever and pumped up the brake and it locked the front tires till you released the lever, it was not electric. Still a good old fashioned cable operated hand brake would be best.

The Comanche is a foot brake and will probably be a bolt in. You should be able to use the comanche cables too. you may also be able to find the correct color kick panel for your interior the early cherokee and comanche dash parts are the same.

I would be very very interested in this! I got the same situation; I would like to put in a real radio console in my 1994 XJ instead of a hodge podge of oddly placed radios.

Removed E Brake, in process of relocating next to driver seat. Will post pics when done. The console is Finished! It's drying tonight and I will Install tomorrow. I'll get pics up of it ASAP. Thanks for all of the ideas.
