Not calling this guy a bad welder...but if you grind welds down they usually tend to lead to cracking down the road...also on such small gauged steel a MIG woulda been the best choice. I'm not doubting this guy one bit...Heck I only own a Stick welder...I just wasn't sure he knew this...

To smooth the bumper out and give it a better look and shape is the reason for grinding welds. We used a stick cause us poor folk can't afford a mig.

Looks badarse man good work. And I always grind my welds when makeing something that will be seen it's just better looking that way. And I like stick welding it works and it will be very strong as well so it's all right.

Stick is stronger then mig, depeding on the type of rod used. You can get it hotter for better penetration.

Im partial to both grinding the welds and leaving them. Grinding them takes alot of work to make it smooth. I left the ones on my bumper and everyone says that it gives it "Charactor".

Anyways, nice build.

Cool

DesertFox your bumper is flawless as far as I'm concerned. I have been welding and cutting for 30 years. With Mig and Stick (in my day they called it a "Buzz Box") Grinding the welds to improve appearance is very common practice, and with a buzz box you usally have plently of weld deep into the steel so "cracking" at the grinds should not be a problem. Keep up the good work, I love to see it.

Thanks guys, I can't take credit for the welds though. That's my buddies part, I just cut and grind. Welding is what he does for living.

Here's some final pics of the finished project. We got it done and mounted on Friday along with my new 33's so the first thing we did was head out for wheeln' for the weekend.

Looks good, and I ground my welds too. They are not going to crack, it's all about the look I wanted.

Ya, a good weld needs to penetrate the steel not just the surface to form a good bond. What we did was after we ground everything out went back and re-welded were there were any spots that didn't seem to penetrate through. Then re ground and mop disced it. Lot work but it pays off in the end.

Exactly what I meant! Some people wouldn't have done that! I wasn't criticizing your work...I hope no offence was taken! It looks great!
