Did you see a drop in temp?? I'd have been concerned that ,with the vents that close to the front, the fan would pull air through the vent and reduce the flow through the rad...

When I originally vented the hood and before I made the louvered vent, I saw a tremendous drop. As mentioned before, I lost head gaskets twice driving up a long hill we have here. It is a four lane that makes a 2000 foot climb in about 10 mi. Now I can climb it at 195°
The placement is actually very strategic. As the air breaks over the hood at normal cruising speeds, that is the place of highest vacuum. So it draws air out. Near the windshield is a place of higher pressure due to the air hitting the windshield and is why many cars take in air for the heater there. It will work without a fan because if that. But in my case, because I have a V shaped motor, the air just doesn't pass out of the engine compartment. That is the reason for the vents. When at speed there is enough air passing out the coolers that the fans do not come on either. So it is like having two sets of vents.

Wow! I thought I was paranoid about underhood temperatures (I live in AZ), but this takes the cake! Where do you go four wheeling? On the Sun?
But seriously, compared to my piddly 6"x20" louvers, your underhood temperatures must be practically sub-zero!

WOW
And here I was thinking I'm doing BIG things by Getting a Heavy Duty 3 row radiator, Thermostat, water pump, clutch fan and hoses to attack my under hood heating issues, and by 'heating' i mean that my XJ is presently NOT doing a very good job of cooling things...but this is a WAY cool mod...
pun entirely intended...

I shouldn't say this on this forum, but with the skid plate and the louvres and hood fans it is almost looking H2 ish.
