on every rack ive make ive used 2" C channel drilled in the center and bolted to the stock mounting locations and welded the rack to that
and i say go for the tool box if u like, i can be standing in my rack in 3 steps, it would be a good location for less used items and would be different

So after a fashion I finally have the rest of the metal I need to finish the roof rack tool box combo. The plan is to have everything except paint done by tomorrow night.
While I was waiting on my roof rack metal I made some serious progress on the bupmper, and it is now 100% complete with paint and mounted.

I will post more pics as they come

Here's the progress I've made so far on the bumper. All I have left now is mounting and paint.
Attachment 133305
In the future I am considering adding a winch. If no winch i would like to try something different and put aluminim diamond plating in all the openings and keep her all shiny looking.
My debate is I have to decide now before I mount the bumper so I can take into account the extra reinforement needed for a winch.

The roof rack is now completely painted and finished! (for Now)
Here is the finished product...

I hope people enjoy this as much as I did working on it. Next up is possibly making a ladder for easier access, but for the time being the rear bumper/tires work just fine. I'm young enough to handle it.
@gobbs stopper, yours was one of my inspirations for doing my roof rack. I spent roughly a month or so looking at others peoples designs to see what I liked and didn't like.

That's going to be a lot of weight once you load it on two very small points on the rain gutters. You may want to consider adding a second set on the rear.
