not really if u look and phillys underhood shot you will see that if placed it right spot you will not be cutting into the hood braces, and that is what really gives a hood its rigidity
I have not had the guts to chop a hood to install this one yet. Mainly because of the size of the hole needed and the structural stength loss that will happen by cutting that much sheet metal out. It will take some planning and fab work to regain the hoods strength. It is from a mid 80s Dodge Daytona turbo.

you should be able to just cut that out without hitting any supports...so you dont have to worry about losing strength in your hood...and i too was scared at first for a bout the first half hour i kept finding stupid things to do because i was afraid to make the first cut...once the first cut is made the fear goes rights out the window....and thanks to everyone that commented on my vents

I have the same daytona turbo vent. Got it at jy for $12.00. What I want to do mount it is get a second hood skin and dome it. So it will be like 3" higher than the rest of the hood. Then cut and mount. I will post when I get started on it. Might have pictures, someone stole my digital camera.
did the same thing

temp have been down alot and whats good about this is when ur stuck in traffic the rad fan pushes air out of the front vents so air is coming in and out everytime.

ok first off just wana say I really like the way this looks.SRRY if i sound like a hater. I really want to do this but im not shure if its worth it. Now for the questions as far as under hood temps go have you seen a difrence?
Also with the drip pans on wouldnt it pretty much not allow allot of heat to escape.......making this just a cosmetic upgrade.
If the vents were fliped 180* would that force air under the hood to cool the engine bay.
again im not hating just curious and think its a great idea

Now that being said, it does work the way you described in a very low suspension racer...say a Lamborghini, where they have worked the aerodynamics so finely so as to almost eliminate any air travelling under the car at all, and the air flows so smoothly over the body of the car that they have to interrupt it with 'backwards' vents to get it into the engine at all.
Just my 2 cents worth! LOL

Sorry to have to contradict you, and although it's counter-intuitive, forcing air in through the top of the engine to cool it won't work in a Jeep. First, the engine is too high off the ground. When moving, air acts like any other fluid (like water, which is why they use water in aerodynamic testing). As a fluid it's going to seek the path of least resistance, so the majority of the airflow over your engine is from the bottom up. Thats why having the vents facing (correctly) with the opening towards the windscreen helps more. The air rushing up under your engine bay travels over the engine, and is pulled out through the vents similar to a chimney stack, as there's a small pocket of low pressure air created just behind the vent openings due to their angle. Air likes to flow from high pressure to low pressure, so that draws the cooler air from the ground up through the engine bay, where it heats up, and out through the low pressure vents.

My vents are facing the windshield to let heat out. When I'm at crawling speeds in the woods you can see the heat pouring out of the vents.

I have the lebaron vents, and they work great when crawling, and look fantastic.
Make sure you get drip pans though...these sumbiches WILL fry your TPS.
