Hi folks, We just traded for an 01 Cherokee Sport. I didnt like the stock rack and the wife said have fun. I used the stock holes and built from there. I will say that gutter mounts would have been easier but I like the look of this. I used 1/8" x 1 1/2" flat mild to mount to the roof..

 

I made the bottom next and added the corner supports..

 

Gotta love welding emt with a stick welder... Not my best welding but it got the job done..

 

got the bottom mouhted to the roof strips and made the top next. sanded the welds as I went. I tried to make it as smooth as possible on all the joints.

 

after I got the top in place I added all the supports.

 

I welded in a brace for the tire to mount to and made a bolt to hold it in place..

 

After everything was welded and sanded, We primed with Macro(?) 2 part epoxy primer. I'll paint it tomorrow after a light sanding and mount the lights.

I'll have it finished and on the jeep today. I sanded and painted before work this morning. The worst part was getting the angles and slope on the roof correct. My wife said it better fit in garage when done. I only have 1" between the tire and top of garage door frame...

Ran the wires thru the tubing. Used 1/4" grommets.

 

Got it mounted!!! We did a test drive and it didnt fall off so I'm happy....
