I meant my set up isn't a safety feature, not tgat the part of the car seat isn't a safety feature. Just to be clear.

Don't get bent outta shape.

I'm not a father yet, so I have little experience with car seats.

So when i saw a strap that looked like it'd hold a carseat from tipping over held down by a self tapping screw through thin sheet metal I got concerned.

Just concerned about safety, thats all.

I've done it with both kinds, but the full size seat is way for stable.

Have you tried a Mighty Tite?

I've got on one the lap belt in the back of my wagon, and it's awesome. It cinches the car seat down way tighter than I can get it by putting my weight on the seat and pulling on the belt. It might solve your problem.

I tackled this a couple years back when my little ones started to want to ride in the "big jeep" all the time. I took 4 500 pound D-rings that you pick up at Lowes or any hardware store and installed them so I can run two car seats, either baby seats or toddler seats. I put one on each wheel well right next to the seat base and one right above each buckle attach point inbetween the seat back and base. Raise your seat base up and you'll see what I'm talking about. I drilled holes through the body and bolted the D-rings through. I plated the underside of the body and wheel wells so there was some added strength to the mounts. The two in the middle can be a pain to get to at times but once attached the car seat isn't going anywhere. Works really well for tie downs when securing gear on a trail ride too.
