Got a free sheet of 1/4in steel so I decided to make a bumper, here's what's done so far. I've been working on it slowly as I'm not home often with school.

Here's some more pics, still need to finish the side pieces and stitch weld the inside. I'm waiting
on my friend's MIG for that, as I started to weld with flux cored and just can't deal with all
the slag and crap accumulating inside. I will also add gussets for rigidity.
Weighs about 50 pounds so far

See how gross this is? Its a pain to clean out

Easy way to clean flux core is go to ace or lowes and get a steel wire wheel for your grinder and then hit it with that. Will look very pretty once you do that. Easy and cheap. Look good so far my man.

Bumper looks awesome! I'm debating on making my own as well. I have access to a welder, grinders, wire wheels....ton of stuff. I'm just not good at welding yet. Need practice. But you give me hope and make me wanna give it a shot. Can't wait to see if finished and on!

Go for it man, last year I didnt know how to weld. I got a little flux-cored machine for my birthday and started experimenting. You will pick up quickly by starting a project, I would do something smaller and cheaper first until you get the hang of it. When I have my jeep back from school in two weeks I'll be able to cap the ends and finish this thing up.
