Default restoration?

ok, so my dads got an old 1969 firebird convertable. I seriously would love to restore and drive this car, but it needs a full restoration. I was wondering if any muscle car enthusiasts might be able to give me a range of costs that this could be? Im just curious, and it could be such a beautiful car.

It varies widely. You can have a nice clean driver for around $15,000, or a total frame up rebuild like they do on overhaulin' for around $30,000-40,000.

well things can be done cheaper if you go custom vs. complete restoration. i tell all my customers that unless they absolutly want it the way it was that it is a far cheaper and easier route to go resto-mod not to mention you get better driving cars

Agreed, factory original parts are much more expensive and will require a little more time to find than newer, usually better parts on the market now. I absolutely love firebirds, so just do SOMETHING to it, and don't just let it rot away! Get a free catalog from Classic Industries, they have a HUGE selection of parts. I bought almost everything through them when I was working on my '78 Trans Am.

I bought a '69 Firebird soft top in '98 that cost me $4,500. It ran, but had rust problems and needed the interior gone through as well as the top. Flash forward 5 years and around $12,000 and I completed my '69 Trans Am clone. I sold it on eBay for just north of $30,000. If you figure in all the labor on that thing, I probably made less than $5 an hour, but it was a fun project.

Thanks. The rust on that car was all on the floor and trunk pan. I had to repalce them all. It wasn't too bad of a job though. I put a ton of new parts on that thing. From the gas tank to all of the trim. I replaced all of the fuel and brake lines along with everything rubber.

The '69 Trans Am is one of my favorite muscle cars and to me one of the best looking cars of the era. I always wanted to make a clone. Restorable '69 Firebirds are getting harder and harder to come by though.
