I've heard the same thing about the winch not having enough room, as well as the extra weight of the Cummins over the Hemi would screw up their spring rates and hurt the off road performance they were going for. Personally I agree with having the lighter gas engine in it, although the power and economy of a Cummins would be nice, really heavy trucks generally speaking aren't as good as a lighter rig off road.
