Need help with 98 Wrangler!!!
Hey my brother has a 98 wrongler. Its having problem shifting into 3rd. ONLY 3rd. It grinds and tries to kick out. It seems like if the rpms are right and your up shifting it will go in ok. What do you think is the problem??? Thanks

Sounds like a syncro issue with the 3rd. gear syncro... especially if it is only that gear... Someone else can correct me if I am wrong though...

Guessing that it's a manual. I agree with synchro's. When my 97 tj started to have those troubles it was because of my synchro's. I had the ax-15 trans in it.

I have the same problem it get so annoying not being able to downshift from 4th to 3rd and my 1st and 2nd gear just started going out to so I can only shift into 1st and 2nd when I am going below 15 mph. I would suggest just buy a used tranny for around $400 thats what I am doing cheaper then a rebuild.

no need to buy a new tranny, just have that one rebuilt... my great uncle used to be able to rebuilt a tranny in no time flat, he knew how everything went apart and how it went back to gether perfect. i miss him
