LMAO, the Integra is a classic huh
I guess that makes the Civic a collectors item and the Smart Car a hot rod. C'mon man!

I started out in the "Honda scene" since that was what was cheap and easy to work on. The repairs on a 4th generation Prelude (98-01) are relatively cheap and they run well. At that kind of mileage you'll get at least another 70k out of it as long as it wasn't beaten to hell and back. If it doesn't already it's likely to start burning a bit of oil and the valve cover gasket (and related gaskets) may need replacing; but that's a super easy thing to do and costs like $25-$40 on the spendy end last I looked.
If you're looking for a decently fun DD to save some gas, the prelude will do it. Expect somewhere between 24 and 34 MPG (city mix/highway respectively) depending on how you drive. On the gas front, you'll pay a whopping $1.80 or so more per tank paying for 92 octane premium VS 87 octane regular. The cost more than balances out to save you some money on gas.
Handling can be improved with some sport springs and adjustable struts (or a full coilover set if you feel like it) and some strut braces. All depends on how far you want to take it. Keep it OEM looking on the outside, drop an alarm with starter kill AND A BACKUP BATTERY on that bad boy and you'll be fine. The backup battery helps big time for the people that like to pop the lock and kill disconnect the battery; siren keeps on screaming and you have a chance to keep your car.

GL on your purchase.

I like that alarm idea, but I didn't get very far on that prelude deal. It was slightly modded already and was missing a radio, so I guarantee it was stolen or broken into before. I'll keep an eye out for one if I find a good deal, but most of them are outside of my price range. It's also hard to find a stock one.
I really wouldn't worry about whether it's modified or not. You can take most of it off. And missing a radio is a cheap fix; who knows, maybe the person who had it before took the radio out because they wanted to move it to their next car. I've done that with cars before, granted I do usually put something in the hole but just knock some money off the price for it by negotiating.
Think of it like buying a jeep, if the mods are something you may have done on your own, you're saving yourself money by buying modded. Have it checked out be a reputable mechanic in your area prior to purchasing and you should be fine.

If you are looking for a fun cheap car to toss around on back roads, look for a '85- '87 Toyota Corolla GTS (AE86). Its RWD, 1.6L, DOHC, multi point EFI, 5 speed, most had LSD, 4 wheel discs. I had 3. Mine ran on 87 gas and got 35+ MPG on a bad day and would walk away from my buddies 2004 GTi on the mountain roads of north Utah. Besides, Honduhs are WAY over rated.
Agreed you already have a jeep might as well have a DSM. I loved mine fun one day unreliable the other 6 days of the week lol. Leave them stock and they wont give much trouble.
