i used to have a 77 j-10, 4spd manual, 360, and 3.55 dana 44s with 33s. my question is what kind of power you think it had? i know it had a lopy cam, high rise intake, a holley double pumper, headers and a full jacobs electronic system. we figured it had 350-400 fly wheel by the simple fact i keep the tires smokin to 3rd, but i dunno. any thoughts?

I have a 213k mile Comanche with a straight 6 and it will burn the tires threw 2nd gear and bark 3rd. What did a renix area 4.0 have? I don't know maybe 150hp or so. Now its probably got a hundred if that at the rear wheels. Yes the J-truck is a full-size rig, but it is hard to judge HP by how good it burns the tires. Btw. Dood you cannot talk HP numbers at the flywheel.
I bet you where putting a max 250-275 hp to the ground IMHO.
Why did you sell it?

thanks man i appreciate the feedback. my 1st was a comanche with a 2.5 and 5spd, that was such a fun dependable truck itd go anywhere id ask it. and was surprisly torquey. i had to get rid of brecause my friend loaned me the money to buy but i was goin off to school i later found out and i wasnt gonna be able to pay him so i gave it to him. that was a good truck too, cept for 6mpg and it was hard to wheel it. not because of the size, it was hard to keep wheel spin down. how come i cant flywheel hp?

You CAN it just doesn't COUNT lol, RWHP is the only thing that matters to performance guys.
If your putting out 400hp at the flywheel, in reality your laying down alot less at the rear wheels and thats all that counts lol.
HP to the wheels is the only HP #'s that actually matter.
<9000 flywheel hp.......2 1/2 hp to the wheels lol

actually torque is all that matters, but i would have to guess that you were probably laying down 250 to the tires, maybe 325-350 at the crank

well figuring i had a manual, drivetrain loss was to a minmal as compared to you auto guys so i feel quite comfortable talkin flywheel . but ill agree with 250ish hp, maybe it was a torque monster. i dont know much on AMC small blocks, exept it could pass for a SBC if threw the distributor in the back. maybe it just felt like more power than it actually had, my vehicle before that was a 83 blazer with a 6.2 diesel, now that baby had a good 90hp to the wheels

My guess is that you had 250-275hp and 275-300 ft/lb
Oh and hp numbers don't matter...it's the torque that gets you movin'.

Also, the thing about all engines haveing equal hp/torque numbers at a certain RPM I have known about for awhile. Honestly though I forgot why it was like that?
