Fuel rail connector hose

Fuel rail connector hose
Hello out there!
my 1996 Grand Cherokee 5.2L has a connector hose between the two fuel rails. It has plastic hose under rubber fuel line. Do I need the plastic hose or can I run regular rubber fuel line only between the two rails.
