MY brother has a 1994 Caravan..3.0 engine with automatic trans 190K miles....He was complining it seemed like the transmission wasnt shifting into gears smoothly as he drove so I checked the fluid for him and saw it was a bit low but beyond that it is completely black and very thin looking...I know the filter and fluid were changed earlier this year ..Any ideas why this could be?..Some sort of internal gasket/seal failure?..The engine seems to run pretty good overall...Thanks in advance

It least the 3.0 has the a904 based tranny and not that craptastic a604 that the 3.3s had. Sounds like the fluid is burnt. Due to worn clutches slipping mostly. Change the fluid/filter NOW to avoid any more damage. My guess is that a used tranny will be in that Caravans future soon though. At least the 3.0 trannys are fairly easy to get and do last longer than the 3.3s.
