Alright so I have my XJ, and I love the freaking thing, never lets me down. I also have a 1966 Satellite at home (I'm a college student). This summer I'll be home and I'll have a job so I'll have a little money to spend. My predicament is I can't decide if I want to keep building my Jeep and let the Satellite wait till after college or just do the necessary things to my Jeep (replacing steering components, wheels so I don't rub, etc.) and start getting the Satellite going. My Jeep buddies at school keep me wanting to build the Jeep, but my hot rod buddies got me wanting to get the ball rolling on the Satellite. If you were in my position, what would you do?

 

Your asking an XJ site if you should build an XJ or a car...

Yes this is true, but there are several performance nuts on this site as well, I'll also be looking at what people respond with in the thread itself

 

I'm not gonna lie, I don't know what a satellite is. I mean as far as a car goes. Lol. Got pics of both?

 

Haha yeah man, I don't have a picture of my actual Satellite, but here's one similar to where I plan to go with it, I wanna go a little more radical though

Wait on the Satellite. The reason It will take way more money to do it correctly. After college you will/should make more money and could restore the Satellite correctly.

 

That's what my dad said as well, if I get it running and driving now, I'll just go with driver condition, probably under primer, then after I graduate start with all the cool stuff

 

When it comes to a classic restore. The best way is to wait and do it the correct way. Its not like the car is going down in value sitting.

Whats the condition of the Satellite? That'll be a deciding factor for what my answer will be to you lol. Also where is it being kept, in a garage, shed/barn, or out in the back yard?

 

I would concentrate on college. And to preempt you on your next comment, no you don't have time for both... unless of course you're taking a half-assed approach to your education. In that case do all 3 at the same time.

OK that was harsh. Do the Jeep and hold on to the car. Don't be a ******* like me and sell it then get to middle-age and wish you hadn't.

 

These were going to be my questions as well. And technically, unless it is being kept somewhere out of the elements, it IS going down in value while sitting....

 

It's definitely a project, there's rust to be dealt with on the cowl, driver's inner fender, passenger's floorboard, and trunk. Right now it's just in a field, but if I don't do anything to it, I'll jack it up on blocks and wrap it up in a tarp to keep the elements from it

It also doesn't run, the 318 poly that was in it was past going, I have a 360 that I'm going to drop in it along with a 4 speed, the rear end needs rebuilding too

 

Do not wrap it in a tarp its better just to let it sit in the elements than to wrap it when you wrap a car up the tarp will act like a greenhouse and create constant humidity between the plastic and the car and it will rust 10x faster
