also you might want to look up Morris they made simlar but better trucks and vans I had a Morris minor van that had a starting handle and was a great little motor
I live in Luton right were the Vauxhall factory is, it opened in 1905 and at that time made some of the fastest and best cars available, they were an independant company and made cars for rich people competing with mercedes and rover etc up untill 1925 when the company was taken over by GM, at the same time FORD set up in the u.k and Vauxhall had to start making their cars cheaper, quicker and smaller to compete with sales.
In 1929 when the stock market crashed it became too expensive to import American trucks so Vauxhall started production of lorries, trucks, vans, pick ups etc under the name of Bedford, as to not tarnish the higher class name of vauxhall.
in 1940 the Vauxhall - Bedford plant at Luton designed and manufactured the churchill tank.
when normal production resumed the Bedford truck became amongst the most popular and best trucks in the world and was always the choice of the British army.
In 1994 the Vauxhall motor company stopped using the name Bedford and started using the Vauxhall name on their vans and trucks, now the vauxhall company specialises in small economical cars but sadly has a pretty poor reputation and the company is on a downwards slope to destruction, most japanese cars out do a vauxhall in the reliability, economy and performance stakes, which is a shame considering the history and how highly respected these cars once were, especially the bedford division which gave britain its best vans before the ford transit took over
