Default About to buy my first diesel pickup

So monday im going to go test drive a 2001 3/4 ton Dodge with a cummins. Truck has 4-5" exhaust and an intake for what i could see. What are some good things to look for before buying? Is there anyway i can see if its been tweaked in the past? I would rather not buy someone's previous hot rod truck. I need it to be as reliable as my xj..... Any input would be appreciated so i don't waste 11k.

how did the test drive go? check for white smoke... that means bad valve seals or rings... look for ecesive oil leaks... all cummins motors leak from around teh harmonic balancer and rear main but they are usually pretty small leaks... as far as hot rodding look at teh turbo and see if the housing is discolored.. it should jsut blook normal and rusty. if its white or you see purple hot spot on the turbine housing thats usually means the truck has been raggend on pretty hard.

Yea i bought it. I just came back to this thread. i did look at everything pretty good on the thing. the turbo actually looks new and everything else under the hood. it does have a straight pipe and an intake. sounds mean. can't wait to hook it to a trailer and see what i can do. Jeep is for sale.: brickwall:

Still got the manche tho so im alright.

suspension is the same in my new truck as my xj. just bigger components obviously. i looked at a crew cab short box ford but they wanted way to much money for what it was. I hate the TTB fronts. had one once.. never again.
