78 J10 Truggy Build
Wel I am starting a build for a good friend. Yjis is going to be a low buck build with a lot of scrounging and part swapping to make it happen.
the specs on the truck are
360 AMC
t18
d20
D44's front and rear
I found the truck from a guy at work retiring. When I say this truck is farm fresh.. I mean it.

Plan for the truck is
105"-107"WB
TBI Either DIY or a kit... COnsidering Pane if I can find a cheap used kit
twin stick the d20 maybe 3to1 if I can find a used kit
36" or 37: tires
SOA front and rear, with inboarding rear springs
Body mods
dovetail and bob the rear
front wil be dovetailed
side wil be boatsided as rockers are rusted out, and lowers doors are as well.

I am still researching things and gathering parts. Not very many truggies out there that I like the design of. Most seem like the ditch the bed and fenders and lose the leafs.
Of course I want to be different and keep the lines, and lights. Ultimate plan is to keep it "street Legal".
I also want to try and keep the chrome.. even narrowed I think I t will look pimp

My j10 is spring over axle with 38.5s and the tires look tiny lol. Think 36s or 37s would be a lil goofy with that much lift. Sounds pretty similar to my j10 build otherwise, i opted to keep the bed though, bit longer wheelbase, tons, chevy drivetrain. 113" wb on this truck is surprisingly manuverable in the tight trails btw.
Oh, and chevy dana 60s are completely bolt in to these trucks.

I have been wheeling my XJ on 108 WB and find my 36's get me hung on my flat skid
I dont have to do a SOA.. kinda use to the YJ way to clear tires
Was kinda leaning towards inoarding, or frenching the rear springs and using a flex joint on the shackle end to help make the rear leafs work. Front was looking like a SOA to be cheap, but if my research can turn up enough info that I can order a set of BDS springs I will. Heck I might have to price out coils and links for the front.
As for 60/14bolt dont think that hasnt crossed my mind all ready. I just really would hate to have to have two rigs on 39+ rubber. The goal of this is low buck, and to use most of the extra parts I have laying around

All ready have a set of drilled and tapped chevy knuckles with hi-steer arms. Also have a set of 36" SX's behind my garage
Also have a RCI fuel cell in my garage
There is also a few 12" and 14" travel shocks laying around
. DOnt ask me why all this stuff is in my garage but it is soI want to use it up. There is also another HP44 from a f250, a shaved 14bolt 2 4.3motors... roughly 160'of 1.75 tubing, and 20' of 2".25, and 15' of 1.5x.25 so I am a hoarder call A&E or TLC on me
i have tons of pics lol. probably should do a build thread on her.
but i ended up using yj rear leaf springs (super short for a good departure angle) and inboarded them to under the frame. 14" came out of the frame before the rear wheels and 14" off the very back. then mounted the leaves so the front mounts wouldnt take up any ground clearance.
heres a few pics thatll prolly help ya
2x6 box tubing fits the stock frame like a glove, i used this to sleeve it where i cut it, where it arches up to clear the axle i just boxed it in with 3/16

just when i got the bed together enough to move it around.

rearend flexes fine with room to spare.

how she sits

i didnt even debate doing a truggy rearend, just not a fan of how they look, especially on such a classic truck with sexy lines. thebed shopwasworth the extra effort.
I will be linking the front end shortly. doubler, skids, bumpers and little odds and ends come first.
Just not a fan of leaves in the front, especially on such large tires, not exactly a tight feeling steering on the street, and then theres the offroad feeling of it, just doesnt feel as solid and moves around too much.

Thanks man.. Just so happens that I have some YJ leafs laying around too
If the lower half of my truck looked as good as yours I wouldnt consider doing it either. I am still going to keep the look by making skins out of the upper half of the bed sides.

im sure the 14 bolt and pinion hanging out so far didnt help my case either, but i NEEDED a traction bar. just letting the clutch out would move the pinion up a couple inches. any sort of throttle made the u joint bind.
luckily the traction bar was super easy to build on this truck, tons of room to work with (even with the dual exhaust)
