Default 77 cherokee chief

so, i'm looking at buying a cherokee chief,

specs for ad--77 Jeep Cherokee Chief 2dr, AMC 360 V-8, TH400 auto tranny, Dana 44's front and rear.

it does not have a rear drive shaft and the owner says with the kind a transfer case in it, that is the reason the chief will not move under its own power.

not sure what kind of transfer case these come with

does this sound legit?

is it orange? if so, and it's the one listed on Birmingham's CL, then the 7-30 ad said the engine needs rebuilding.

Sometimes I swear some people intentionally pull the battery or driveshaft out of vehicles for sale and say that's all it needs. Not saying that's the case here, or if it's even the same truck....

I have a 78 Chief wide Trac. Same specs. Quite possible it has a D20 T-case. It sounds good to me. Best bet is to go to the International Full Size Jeep Assoc.(IFSJA). Those guys over there are insane with FSJ's.(in a good way) Lots of knowledge to be had.

heres the ad, he wants 800 for it. it dont seem to be a bad deal to me. but it needs work. it has some bad rust spot in the floor pan where some one just cut it out and pop rivet sheet metal on to it. the body was in fairly good shape with minum rust

Ad has been deleted by its author... but by what you have described, it doesn't seem like a bad deal at all.. I am looking to find either a Chief or an old J-series truck myself... even in a condition such as you are explaining this chief to be...

I had a 76 Big Chief Cherokee, it was awesome. That 360 is a strong motor, anytime my buddies would get stuck, they would just call me. Heck, i even pulled a tow truck out one night. Charged him 50 bucks too, true story.
