Default 2008 Patriot slight clacking and whine

I recently changed the oil in my wife's Patriot and my XJ to Synthetic and now my XJ is perfectly fine, but the Pat seems to have some slight clacking at idle and a noticeable whine while at low RPMs. Could this be because of the Synth switch-over, or something else more problematic. I know that one way to find out is to change back, possibly add some Lucas... but I wanted to hear some other possible ideas. It's the 4 banger, if that makes a difference.

Here's an opinion.

Assuming you used the correct weight oil and proper filter and amount, the oil should not be the cause of the noise. That being said, I have no experience with that engine or that specific vehicle, so my thoughts on the matter aren't worth all that much.

Thanks for the input. You are correct, I used the correct everything, I'm nowhere new to the mechanic world, but I do get stumped on occasion. The reason I was thinking oil was because it didn't start doing this until I did the switch so naturally that was my first thought.

I switched back to regular oil on Sunday and since then, the whine seems to have quieted down some, but the clacking is still there. I do still have a warranty on it, but I HATE going to the stealership for service especially with Chrysler's warranty b.s., and it's nearly impossible to get time off work to do it. Looks like I'm going to have to anyways.
