just bought a 2004 dakota quad cab sxt to replace my ZJ. low miles (77xxx) and its really really clean. got it way under book value too. anyways, im having this weird issue with the headlights. say i have the headlights on and i get home, if i shut the lights off before i turn the engine off, the lights shut off normal. but if i shut the engine off and leave the lights on, then go to turn them off, the headlights stay on, but the amber running lights turn off. the headlights turn off if i turn the switch back "on" then "off" again.

any ideas? i dont know a whole lot about these trucks yet

 

It seems it has some mechanical function to it which only runs on or off with the engine running. Thats wrong!
