I'm looking into buying an auto 2.2 mx6 but the tranny is having an issue. It shifts and drives in reverse and forward until the transmission warms up at which point it puts it self into neutral ( while the shift lever is in drive or reverse.) Any ideas on what could cause this? Is a transmission on a front wheel drive much more difficult than a rear drive vehicle?

If you haven't bought it yet I would stay away. Those Mazda transmissions can be difficult and expensive to build. Most front wheel drive stuff is a lot more difficult to work on when talking about trans work. Things like removing subframes, having to support engines and such. Then the transmissions themselves usually involve more special tools and small parts. The cost of parts alone can be enough to make some people decide against rebuilding .

Sounds like a possible torque converter issue I've experienced in a few cars
