Ok so i have a 96 4.0 zj i took it trail riding the other day and it did fine didnt get hot nothing like that. I did get stuck at one point in a ravine where you go down one hill then directly up another i couldn't get unstuck so i had to be pulled after i was pulled now it wont rev over 2000 rpm's in park or reverse, reverse acts like i am trying to power brake it. Neutral will drive in first gear, and overdrive works perfect? Im so confused theres no bad fuses or relays fluid level is perfect and is not discolored. Please help!? Need my jeep back!

i have a 98 grand cherokee with a 6 cyl auto on 35's with 4.88 gears. i bought it used and have noticed that when in 4 high it acts as though im power braking it anytime im in a tough spot. if i put it in 4 low it will go anywhere. before i noticed it had this problem i was pushing through about 2 feet of snow and the tranny started overheating. it cooled down quickly and didnt heat up at all once i put it in 4 low. the rig has 144k miles on it so i chalked it up to too many beatings but before i buy a beefier tranny i wanted to post this in case its fixable for less money. by the way if anyone knows where i should look for a proper tranny please let me know. thanks!
