ZJ Plastic Parts In Tranny Oil Pan
Hello.
Yesterday a friend had problems with his 42RE tranny. It shifted hard and there was a loss of power. The oil looked a bit like foam. We thought there was too much ATF in the tranny.
Today we found two small plastic parts. One was in the tranny oil pen and one was on top of the oil filter. You can see them on the pic below.
What could be the problem?
Where are the plastic parts from?
What would you do?
Thanks for your help.

They look like they could be pieces of the tranny filter.. did you pull it off? I'd think a broken filter could cause some bubbles. If that's it, make sure you get all the old filter out before you replace it.

Sorry I'm from Germany and my English isn't the best.
What is a tranny funnel?
Would that be a big problem?
What else could that small parts come from?
IMO we should install a new filter and fill in new ATF and then we'll see if the tranny works right.
Or is that a bad idea?

thats what I would do. Its hard to tell but from the pics I cant figure out where those pieces would have come from. can you take them again, with something next to them for reference?
The only thing I can think of is that the sprag broke. They are black plastic.
Something definitely happened but I would run it and see what it does. If it has a problem once you run it and you can describe it, that might help to identify it also

A tranny funnel is what you use to put transmission fluid in the the transmission through the dip stick tube. Maybe somebody broke the tip off of their funnel while adding fluid and the pieces made it all the way down the dip stick tube and into the pan.
