Default ZJ buying guide?

Hello, My name is George, and I'm about to go and look at a '97.
Gosh this feels like AA.

It's a 4.0L, auto.
Here's a link. LINK!

My parents had a similar rig last year, and it was pretty nice, But I was away at college when they bought it, and I was just looking for some guidance. Are there any common trouble issues I should look for? he says it has 180k which is a lot in my eyes, but I know jeeps are supposed to be reliable. I have him talked down to 2200 so far.

Well, I bought it. But until I got on the expressway, I didn't realize that once it gets to about 3k rpms, it loses all power, it feel like it hits a rev limiter or something. He said he replaced the distributor, cap, and rotor button. Would it being slightly out of time cause this?

The spare is on the front right now, could that have been it?

Check the fuel pressure, you may be starving for fuel. Replace the fuel filter just to be on the safe side.

I had the same issue with my XJ and it has come and gone but only happens on highway drives, might be related to the cold air. Try putting a bottle of Heet or SeaFoam in the gas to get rid of any water that might be in the system. look up SeaFoam, it's good stuff and lots of posts on how you can use it on here too.

I have since replaced my TPS, CPS, MAP, cleaned the TB, and have not had an issue since. I'd really like to try out a new exhaust header, ditch my CAT, and install a col air intake.

I doubt it's got anything to do with Cap, Rotor, and Wires. This sounds like a fuel issue, or a sensor.

Oh yeah, run some SeaFoam through the dam beast, see what happens, you'll be plesantly surprised with the results!
