Hey gang I belong to a few different forums, and the one common thing I've found is these trucks don't like to start. So I decided to make a "database" of sorts. If you have/had a ZJ with the 5.2 motor and had no start issues and got it resolved please post you fixes here.I'm currently working on a 95 myself for someone, I have gone after the usual suspects including the PCM, and still no start. So it must be in the harness somewhere. It doesn't matter how simple the fix was, I/we would like to hear what the resolve was. We all are in Jeeping community and we have a reputation of sticking togehter so let's help out our fellow jeepers and jeepers to be by putting this together! I look forward to your replies. We all have researched on here and other places and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is frustrated by threads with no conclusion. So let's here a quick story and what fixed it please, ok?

I had to replace the starter, battery, and water pump on my '97 5.2L V8 ZJ. Otherwise, no starting issues. I love it.

Wife's 5.2 Limited had the no start when temps got cold. Had to leave the key on and wait till the fuel pump relay series of clicks, then would start.

Replaced with a reman'd ECU and problem fixed.

My '94 used to not like to turn over but I just did a minor tune up and now shes not so stubborn when I turn the key. But other than that i replaced a power steering pump and now i have to buy new bushings and shims for the front axle and possibly a new head gasket.

Is this a no crank issue or no fire? Im new to this, and would love to see some more. New to Jeeps atleast.

Hmm.. Never had a no start issue with mine...

Had a cheap-o distributor cap crack and cause a shifting issue, but that is the only thing.

Well, for this thread I'd like to hear about no spark or no fuel issues. For mine it's a no spark issue. I have another thread I started about the specific truck I'm working on and documenting my troubleshooting process. Like I said in the begining, there are lot's of questions from others about this issue, and am trying to give people a place to start when they are troubleshooting. I know mine is a wiring issue, just have to start picking through the harness and find it.

I'd love to see more fixes to this because there is a really sweet ZJ near me that the guy wants to unload for $500 because it won't start! Is the PCM often the culprit? How much for a reman?

Well I picked mine up for 300, because it would not drive for the original owner. Something was wrong with the trans for him. I threw in some lucas and ATF, and she moves just fine until it warms up. Then it starts slippin like a bad clutch. So I have to fix that. Otherwise it runs great for a truck that sat for almost a year.

Randomly my 95 ZJ (4.0) would stall, or not start. It was a crank shaft positioning sensor coming and going, found it from a code the PCM generated, even though the truck had no engine light. Yes the light works.
