Default Would Quadra-Trac II be a deal breaker for you?

Looking at an 03 Jeep GC Limited with 140k and a V6 with the Quadra-Trac II transmission. I really wanted a Select-Trac but I really like this 03 that I am looking at. I like the limited package and the car looks like it's never been off road. Older couple owned and in immaculate condition for it's age. Drives straight and smooth and has some good power when you floor it. Only thing I found wrong with it at all is that the Hood Struts and Trunk struts are shot. Other than that the thing drives great. Oh ya and there is no tow hitch on the vehicle.

Whats your opinion on the Quadra-Trac II. Full time 4H, N, 4L.

They were asking $5200 for it but got them down to $4500. Seems like a great deal for the condition and how it drives. Any opinions?

First of all, it's not a V6. It's either the 4.0 straight 6 or the 4.7 V8. The AWD system comes with it's own set of problems and is expensive to fix if something goes wrong.

Personally for me, I wouldn't want one. I own a '00 WJ with the 4.0 and Selectrac. It is perfect for my needs as a DD that is excellent in snow. I wanted reliability and ease of maintenance. When I went looking to buy another jeep, I was looking specifically for this setup. It doesn't have the tow package, but, hey, we can't always get what we want. The tow package isn't just a trailer hitch. It consists of the hitch, the lighting package, and an aux trans cooler.

To answer your question, yes, the Quadratrac II would be a deal breaker for me.

I paid $4200 a year ago for the base model with impeccable maintenance records and 125K miles of TLC from a soccer-mom.

I agree with Dave 1123, I have a 02 overland, I wanted the towing package. Really don't like the nv 247 transfer case. Would get select trac if I get another WJ. Might even swap one into mine.

Muffinman, My advise to you is if you plan on keeping your WJ for a while, look for a 242 now and keep it for a swap when your 247 gives up. Don't forget to take the shifter and cable out of the donor as well. You can deal with any driveshaft differences when you do the swap, although I don't think you'll have any. I'd have to crawl under mine to be sure, but I think my front shaft is double-carden and CV combo. You didn't mention if you had the 4.0 or the 4.7. Be aware there are input shaft differences.

lacofdfireman, those struts don't last very long but are easy to replace. I replaced all 6 on my WJ. The rear glass really didn't need them, but I did them anyway. I seem to have a problem with my passenger's rear window binding up, but that also seems to be endemic with this model. Check out the struts on rockauto.com. They are pretty reasonable.
