I have a 1999 grand Cherokee limited 4.0. When i start to drive out shifts into 2nd just fine but for some reason it doesn't like to shift into 3rd gear until you rev up to like 4-5k..... I read it could a throttle valve cable? Does that sound correct and if so does that cable since its a external cable have a bracket to it? Or any other ideas why the tranny is shifting like that it will go into third sometimes n jump down to second but after I drive for 5-10 min its shifts smooth everytime. ....

The trans throttle cable has an adjustable mount bracket in the throttle linkage end. You just press the release, let the cable snap back into the bracket, release the catch, and open the throttle wide. The cable will ratchet out to it's proper base setting. Do this with the engine shut off.

If it still gives you trouble, try warming it up in neutral for a couple of minutes before driving off. You didn't say how cold your location is, but that works for me.

 

Thank you so much lol ill try that my next day off. Is there a second bracket like after the throttle body? And its pretty cold lol Wisconsin. Ill try n warm up in neutral today and see if there any change thank you so much
