WJ questions
Hi everyone, I'm a TJ owner and member of Wrangler Forum.
I'm here because I helping my Father to buy a WJ,that will replace his old 93 ZJ.
This one is a Laredo 2004 selc trac,4.0 and has 60k, one owner & clean carfax.
The ZJ looks like just left the showroom and priced @ 9900 (seems a good deal compared to other 04 WJ )
But my concern it's about a reviw that I just read:
Oil leak: Gear lube may leak from the rear differential, especially after driven at highway speeds following cold soak, and is caused by oil coming out of the vent. Installing an accumulator on the vent line is necessary. (1999-04)
How true or bad is this problem??
Thanks in advance and please advice me in what to look for.

I wouldn't worry about that differential review too much. Check to see if it's leaking, if not.. no problem, at least, no more than any other vehicle.
You're looking at a Laredo, once again, no other real issues than any other vehicle.
Once you start looking at Limited GC's, you need to look at the HVAC system, making sure it's putting out the correct temperature selected (Search "Belnd Doors", you'll get an idea of what to look for).
The 4.0, as you know is a very reliable motor but, some will say it lacks the power to push the heavier WJ as opposed to the ZJ.
The 4.7 seems just as reliable as the 4.0 and personal experience proves to be sufficient for anything I throw at it. Many threads discuss that if there are any future lifts planned or needed towing , the 4.7 is the way to go.
IMO, the 242 Selec-Trac is the best option for T.C.'s as you will never have to worry about the Progressive Coupler burning out which is becoming more and more common with the 247 (Quadra_Drive + Quadra-TracII).
