Old fart with a wrench
"If you can take it apart, then you should be able to put it back together."
My grandparents used to babysit for all the family's kids and they had a bottom dresser drawer with all kinds of interesting crap in it. There was an old windup alarm clock that one day I decided to take apart. My grandad caught me with all the gears and springs scattered on the floor and said "Okay smart ***, now put it back together!" Of course I couldn't, but it got me interested in mechanics and how things worked enough to begin to learn how to fix things. My dad picked up on this and taught me everything he knew and got me started learning auto mechanics. I got REALLY interested in steam engines. The most dangerous thing about them is the boiler!

Yep, I think any curious kid with a little intellect starts doing that kinda stuff early.
More news on 0331. Tupy doesn't mean any more Nickel was added. They MAY have made it thicker. We literally went to the book.
Lee and my Dad got to talking about Chromoly Rings. They were the "It" thing back in the day if you wanted the best. They both had bad experiences with them not seating. Lee put Comet down his carburetor and drove 100 miles and they finally seated. My Dad said he'd heard that trick, but didn't try it back then, he just rebuilt. Lee says it works good. He said "Comet and Seafoam".
The Moly Rings that we have aren't the same though. So it's no worry in ours.
But, back to ridge reaming while there's still daylight.

Did your research tell you that TUPY is the name of the foundry in Brazil that cast them? Chrysler jobbed out the fix because they were going to delete the 4.0 and needed to start production of the 3.7 V6. That is, Chrysler or whoever it was pulling the strings at the time.

He'll have more info when i go to pick it up.
Ridge Reaming.... that tool is a tough one. Luckily when it's not working that's exactly all that happens. It's really hard to judge how low to set it up because it HAS to start under the ridge line but it's only got about an inch of fine threads to work up as it cuts the ridge.
Sometimes it just doesn't grab the ridge. You can totally feel and see when it does.
like 99.95% of the cutting blade is smooth and rounded. That's what rides along the cylinder wall. But at the very top of it there is a 45 degree angle with a sharp edge, so it only cuts what is high, from underneath. This way there is no cutting too deep.
I have 4 done that I'm happy with. Two more tonight should be no big deal.
Head will be done tonight.
Wrist Pins pressed tomorrow
Bearings in the mail, should come today or tomorrow.
I need figure out how to hone the back two cylinders
And the install should begin.

Yeah that's the plan. I asked some Carpenters at work and they told me Home Depot rents like every kind of drill there is.
Woo! Ridges Reamed. Twice each. They are as good as they can get.
And my Bearings just arrived. Once again Summit Racing rules!
Still haven't really cleaned anything... I guess I better do that before it all goes back together...

Just got my head back. He even replaced my Freeze Plug for no extra charge.
Pressure checked, Tanked, Valve Grind, Resurfaced, Valve Seals, and a Freeze Plug
$60 flat. But I gave him an extra $10 just for his good work and sharing of knowledge.
He says it's got another 200,000 left so I'm gonna make sure not to overheat.
Pistons are at the Machine Shop. I get them after work tomorrow. If we weren't having a storm across the entire PNW this weekend I could probably get it done.
I'm also forcing myself to remember some old accounts and passwords, and learn to use this friggin Chromebook better so I can post some pics.

Justin, all you have to do is put the pics in your picture library in your devise, then click the image icon on the top of the message box. you'll get a prompt to say where to get your image, then insert it.

I guess I'll have some up later tonight then. I thought I had to use photobucket still.

No, the kind people running this forum updated this feature just recently AFTER I joined Imgur.com. It's so much easier now. I recently sent a PM to Outlaw Star about it not working for PMs, but I haven't tried it for that since.
BTW, I'm 71 years old and never touched a computer until 2005! Nobody helped me learn how to use a PC, but I learned the basics at the Labor Board looking for a job! My first computer was a hand-me-down Dell running Windows 98! Then my wife bought one running Windows XP. I just bought this one with Windows 7 and just getting pretty good with it. It's got the full Office program, but all I've ever used is Word.
I hope other people aren't annoyed with the ramblings we've been putting on this thread. It's hard to stick to topic when waiting for parts!

Got this.
Heard a tick, searched, and found this.
Decided to do this.
Lee Windh The Head Guy did this.
I bought six of these.
And all this.

This is my ride
Okay, I did notice the "slippers" on the sealed power pistons are shorter and wider than the original pistons. I wonder if the different design will make them less libel to break again.

Groovy ride Dave!
That's awesome you noticed the skirts. They are definitely shorter, thicker, and wider. I was gonna post a side by side pic to show the diff, but didn't want to over pic the post.
I kept loading like 3 pics and accidentally hitting the back button on my phone. That "Oh crap NOOO!!!" moment when you realize you have to do it all over again sucks.

I use it more as a delivery van than anything else. I deliver newspapers and it'll plow thru snow like it wasn't there. I've run thru snow that blew over the hood and it kept going. I love it for this reason. I used to get very nervous driving in snow, but now it's my playground! The funniest part about the stripes is I put them on to help me be seen more readily but they make it hide better because they break up the profile enough so people don't see a car coming when it's snowing! I call it "snow camo!" These foglights help as driving lights;
