a friend of mine was wondering what this is on his wifes 1999 GC WJ 4.7L. it comes off of the air filter box & hooks up to some vacum lines. just recently its started to make a loud ticking. any input would be greatly appreceated!!!

 

does this part actually attaches to the air cleaner box? or is it to the side of the box. do you have a better picture of it?

 

Its on the side of the box & not part of the box! The pic I took is off of a 2009 WK, but its the same part just in a different location as on her 99 WJ... It has the electrical pug that u see in the pic & 2 vacum hoses also coming off of it! I just need to know what its called?

 

if i dont get more hits i'll try post a pic of the actual 1 on her jeep tomorrow!

 

Believe that is the Evap cannister purge solonoid. My wife's 4.0 did the same thing. Horrid noise. But you can unplug it and be fine if that is what it is.
