Default Weird tranny problem HELP

Hey guys, so I have searched far and wide and cant find anything that really is close to what I am going through. I have a 97 ZJ 4.0 with the 42RE.. It has a new filter and fresh fluid as of about a month ago. Lately, when I start it and out it in drive or reverse, it takes about 4-5 seconds to begin moving at all with no gas pedal applied, almost like the torque converter is not engaging quickly????

Also, as of last week, when i do put it in a gear and hold the brake when engine is cold, the rpms drop and it wants to die.. If I take off driving its fine or if I shift back into park or nuetral it idles fine..

Any help on either of these would be appreciated, I am hoping they are related for an easy fix!!!

Is the delayed shift only happening after the vehicle has sat over night?

Could be two problems. The seals in the transmission can be getting hard and won't be as playable until they warm up and seal better, or the torque converter drain back check valve could be leaking and allowing the fluid to drain out of the torque converter. There are some additives available that claim to restore the softness of the seals, might be worth a shot. The idle issue can be a sticking or non-adjusting idle air control valve.

Another thing you can do is shift to neutral as soon as it fires up and let the fluid circulate for a little while before driving off. This will allow the converter to fill and the seals to pressurize before being required to do some work. My '00 WJ has the same problem when it's extremely cold outside and this works for me. My rig has 160K on it. The first time this happened it set a governor pressure code.
