Default Vent tube cut in half

Hi everyone. I just realized one of my vent tubes has been cut in half for quite some time now. I'm assuming it's my front differential. It may have been this way for about 2 years now for all I know.I noticed it cut a couple of years back while getting work some other work done and a mechanic told me not to worry it's for water. Now after reading elsewhere and realizing what that hose actually is, it seems as though that's not a good thing as it can let water into the differential and now am pretty worried. Strange thing all the differentials where drained at valvoline less then a month ago and no one mentioned anything while they were down there refilling them. What damage would have been caused since they have been this way?

Only if you have crossed water deeper than your vent hose

Hi, guy! I've got a 2000 WJ and my front diff vent hose keeps popping out of the diff housing. On the rear side, top, of the diff there is a plastic fitting pressed into the housing. The hose runs up high somewhere so water can't get into the diff unless you submerge the air intake. Mine seems to get pulled out of the diff every winter by snow. I think I'm going to have to thread the hole for a pipe fitting and put a brass fitting and hose clamp on it. After 3 winters I still haven't found any water in the diff.
