V8 oil cunsumption and misfires
If your V8 ZJ is using oil and might even run a little ratty at idle, take a look at these pictures. As you can see, the plate on the bottom of the plenum was sucking oil. The 2001 Ram truck this engine came out of has a P0305 code (cylinder #5 misfire). The warmer the engine got the more you could feel the miss. A cylinder leak down test confirmed the exhaust valve for cylinder #5 was leaking. I pulled the head and found cracks between the valves on all the cylinders. So if your V8 ZJ is having oil consumption issues or a miss that you can't figure out, you may want to look at the plenum plate and do a cylinder leak down test.
