95 ZJ Limited 5.2l

Disabled the battery today to do some testing and apparently the vehicle has a security lockout feature. Well it’s tripped and I can’t figure out how to override it.

When I bought it, the key fob wasn’t working and does not appear to be the original fob. I tried using the key to reset it in the door and the rear.

I need to know if I can buy a new fob and program it to unlock it or is it going to have to be reflashed at the dealer?
Is there some other method to reset the system?
What does an OEM fob look like and where to get one?
Can I remove the security system?

Why not ID the vehicle? Things like year; engine; transmission and options make it possible for others to assist.

 

Thanks wingless. I figured all ZJ were the same but I do recall the 96 and later being redesigned somewhat.

The issue has been resolved by grounding out the system. I’ll post how I did it with pics on a new post.

Under the driver side dash there will be a bundle of wires, find the purple wire with a yellow stripe. This is the security system ground. You can splice into this wire and ground it to the body. This will disable the security system permanently. I inserted an alligator clip with a wire pin and grounded where the wire went into the plug under the dash. This is a temporary ground. I have yet to follow through with a permanent ground. Google security system bypass and your year model GC. Here is one such video.
