I have a 98 grand Cherokee and the transmission is starting to act funny. Sometimes if I shift to n it’ll still put power to the wheels. Same thing with park sometimes. I’d really like to upgrade to a 5 or 6 speed transmission. Any options for that? If not then what should I do?

No because anything you do will be severely custom and depending on where you live you might not pass inspections.
Yes because you could technically swap a ax15 or nv3550 if you wanted but its going to be a HUGE undertaking due to pedals, driveshaft, transfer case, check engine codes etc etc.

He has a 4.0, finding a 93 manual might be a challenge but everything should bolt up, and it will take some wiring to get the clutch pedal position switch, cruise control, and reverse lights to work. The computer may need to be flashed for a manual transmission.

so it really shouldn’t be that hard once I find the manual 93, and all I’d have to do is pull the tranny and clutch pedal and everything for the clutch pedal right? My cruise control doesn’t work as is anyways. It works sometimes lol

Finding the pedals and pcm will be the challenge. I've been looking for zj 5 speed pedals for awhile.

There is a reason why people butcher XJ pedals for the ZJ... they are literally a rare item. If someone wanted to make some coin.. they would gather up ALL the ZJ 5 speed pedals they could find and make a small fortune.
