Transmission question??
my tranni just started to act up a lil bit and it seems to shift at a high rpm from a stop or going from 1st to 2nd...when i go around corners as well at about 15 mph it will downshift and then be at a high rpm again....any ideas what it could be?? o yah i checked the fluid and its full and not burnt!!

Mine started acting up too, accept mine seems to act like it is 'hunting' for a gear at highway speeds. The tach will increase 200 rpm but it doesn't jerk or anything, does it more with cruise control on. recently had the fluid changed and all was good. Does yours do this at all?

Does the 98 4.0l have a 42RE behind it? I think it does and if so the TV cable does not control shift points, it is fully electronic and gets its information from the PCM. The TV cable only adjusts the pressure applied tothe shifts and therefor the harshness of the shift. It is not a kickdown cable like on old trannies. If teh tranny is looking for a gear it could be the TPS or one of the speed sensors, CEL on or any codes in memory?

Just replaced governor pressure sensor and solenoid on my 2001 GC, had P1762 code. Shifting is back to perfect, like I got a new tranny.

if it is an RE then the TV cable just controls pressure applied at shifts not actual shift points, check the FSM I did. Now if it is way out of adjustment it may not generate enough pressure to shift. One trick is to disconnect it and then pull the cable completely out and take it for a drive. This will force max pressure shifts, will be harsh as hell. This will help narrow down where to look. If it still does not shift then you got other issues in the transmission.
