Default Transmission question

My father's ZJ just started slipping after it warms up. The vehicle is a 1995 Grand Cherokee limited 5.2 liter, which I believe has the 46H transmission. It shifts fine and goes in to gear fine when it's cold. After its warm it starts to slip when starting from a stop. Also when you shift from drive to reverse it is slow to get in gear but only after jeep is warm. The clip for the tv cable is broke so we are going to order this but I don't think that is the issue since it's happening after it gets warm. Any advice would be appreciated (can I adjust bands or something else)?

Check the fluid level while idling in neutral on level ground. Also check the condition of the fluid, it should be pink and not smell burnt. When was the last transmission service done?

He just changed it after it started slipping. It did not look great from what he says. Do you think adjusting the bands or tv cable would help?

The bands may help, the TV cable won't cause slipping, only delayed or early shifts.

Ok thanks guys. We will try adjusting the bands and see if that helps. Hopefully it's not new tranny time.

Just an update. The trans took a dump before we could even do the band adjustment. We're going to pull it out and check prices of used compared to get it rebuilt depending on what my pops can afford.
