Transfer Case isn't adjusting?
I have a 98 Grand Cherokee Ltd. This has the All-time 4wd and I think I'm discovering what's wrong with my Jeep.
So, I've noticed that when I make sharp turns the front outside wheel starts locking up like it does in any other non-alltime 4x4 when you put it in 4wd.
I never paid much attention to it because I rarely pulled u-turns and when off roading the slip from the mud prevents me from even noticing. But last night I was driving through the neighborhood, hooked a left and all of a sudden I hear a clunk. My front driveshaft broke off from the differential yoke.
So at first I though my driveshaft was the culprit, now I'm starting to see it may be the transfer case going bad and is failing to transfer the power to the different driveshafts appropriately. Am I correct to assume this?

Well you obviously had a problem with your front drive shaft, but you may have issues with the viscous coupling in your t-case also. Did it churp/scrub the tires, or seem like it wanted to hop the front end when making a tight turn before? That's the sign of a bad coupler.
The t-case wouldn't cause your drive shaft failure though.

re: transfer case parts
Just by a rebuilt transfer case off of ebay and call it a day
I understand now about the Transfer Case. There's really I can do except do my speeding on flat ground.
We've rented a house in Pacific Beach. It's about 20 minutes north of Ocean Shores. If the weather is bad we'll go down to Ocean Shores. There's a pizza place we love and the wife likes the casino.
I'd like to meet up with you next summer. Sounds like fun

transfer cases
I have had a lot of good luck with these guys, transfer cases, they have a bunch of salvage yards across the country
Had the front driveshaft replaced 5k ago because of the 2 inch lift, all greasable ujoints. Will buy the new seals tomorrow. Also, the "high/low" lever on the new transfer case is very difficult to move back and forth. Is that normal and will it free up once I connect my existing cable or could it be an indication it may lockup in the future?
