Hi yall, my father is putting a new/refurbished tranny into his 99 grand, other then unplugging everything, getting all the new gaskets and general disassembly, is there anything special we need to look out for? I personally drive a xj and havent done alot on the zj, so any pointers would be great!

 

I did a swap on a 99 before. It was a used trans. Only issue I ran into was I didn't change the rear seal in the trans and it leaked after I put it all together. On a 2wd its not big deal, but on the 4wd you have to pull the tcase to get to the seal.

Other than that, it was pretty straight forward.

 

Make sure to flush out the lines and cooler before connecting them to the new trans. Are you using a new torque convertor? Compare the cost against the money it could save you. An old/dirty convertor can have shavings/debris in it that can damage the new trans fairly quick. JMO
And the '99-'04 Grands are WJ's, the ZJ's were '93- '98.
