Default Torque specifications

Looking for the Torque data of a Pinion Shaft Nut of a DANA 30 (front axle of my ZJ Grand Cherokee 1994), I read browsing on the net :
271-474 Nm or 200-350 ft/lbs. Could be a huge gap between one torque ?? Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Those use a crush sleeve so you're supposed to tighten it till the bearing preload is correct. That's why there is such a range.

You torque the nut until you reach rotational resistance. It depends on if you are using new bearings or original. Here are the specs
reading recorded during removal, plus an additional .56 N.m 5 inch pounds
New bearings 2-5 N.m 15-35 inch pounds

If you are just replacing the seal, mark the nut, and count the number of turns it takes to get it off, yhen put it back in the exact same spot. I have changed several pinion seals that way and never had an issue.
