Default Tire pressure sensor dash light.

The "service tire pressure sensor" dash light comes on & off on our 05 GC. I've tried to erase it but It comes back on . How do you service this or do you have to take it the over priced dealer ? Thanks ahead.

There are pressure sensors in each wheel attached to or part of the valve stems. These transmit a signal to a central receiver in the dash. They have batteries in them that, over time, need to be replaced. Of course, most of them aren't replaceable separately and need a new unit installed instead. Most major tire retailers can do this and spare the expense of going to the dealer.

In my opinion, tire pressure sensors are just another one of those expensive features on today's cars we could do without. I've heard rumors that several states are trying to pass legislation so that anything the vehicle came equipted with has to work. Just another Big Brother intrusion into our lives.

You're probably reaching the end of the lifespan of the batteries in the TPMS sensors, they're ten years old after all. You have to replace the sensor in each wheel and have them programmed so the TPMS control module can read them. Any chain tire shop should be able to do this for you and there are programmable aftermarket sensors available. WURTH makes them and they are programmable.

I have a question about the TPMS. Isn't it difficult to balance a tire with this system installed?

Never noticed it to be difficult to balance because of the sensor. It's a little more difficult to mount the tire without damaging the sensor, it's real close to the bead area of the rim.

Default Tire sensor expense$

I talked to 2 different shops about replacing the tire sensors on our 05 GC,They wanted $125.00 A wheel. Is there a way to permanently turn the dash light off? I consider that an option I can live without . Thanks.

You will have to disable it yourself, a shop won't do it because it's considered tampering with a safety device. Even then I'm not sure if you can totally disabled the TPMS system. A hundred and twenty five bucks a wheel is extremely high. I know the GM sensors are fifty bucks a piece from the dealer. I don't know how much Mopar TPMS sensors cost.

IDK if the instrument cluster is as easy to remove on your '05 as it is on my '00, but you could just take the bulb out. My cluster just has a lower bezel held on by spring clips and then 4 phillips screws. If you get a chime warning when it sets, you'll have to put up with that anyhow.

Default 05 GC Tire pressure sensor found(TPMS)

RockAuto has the oem direct fit sensors ,Dorman #974001/MOPAR #68078861.The price is $23.89 each. They are self programmable after a 15 min .drive. I found a local shop that will install my new sensors for the cost of remounting & balancing the tires. Advance auto stores carry the same sensors for $46.00. Problem solved
