Hey, I'm new here too but I had some info I wanted offer and hope that it helps someone. I have a 1996 Cherokee Sport and I can confirm that the clutch slave cylinder is indeed external because I've had to replace it myself.
I have the same problem as the OP now, with a high pitched whine that I believe is attributed to the clutch throw out bearing, as the clutch was not slipping or showing any signs that it was going out.
Now the big question is, do I take it to the shop for fixing or do I just do a trade in and get a new vehicle? I like my Jeep but I don't know how long it's going to work out here in the city.
