how many TPS's are on a 2004 jeep laredo grand cherokee? ( v-8 engine )

 

One on the throttle body.

 

if it is bad is there anyway that it could be killing the battery along with all the other symptoms?

 

The TPS will not kill the battery. What other symptoms?

 

to begin with the rpms would drop when coming to a stop and the engine would shut off but before all this began the tranny would like jerk while driving. like i said then the idleing fluctuation followed the tranny issues and as of now the engine will not even idle. when the engine is running i have to hold the gas pedal down to raise the rpms and the engine sounds as if its missing. i have put a new battery in it a few weeks back and it has been drained but it has been really cold out also but i wouldnt think that would kill it.

 

Have you gotten the alternator load tested.

Have you brass brush cleaned the terminals and clamp and Di electric greased them.

Clean the IAC.

Check belt tension.

Just a couple of things

 

the alternator is just a little over a year old but i suppose it could still be bad. i will check all these.

 

Tps can cause the hesitation issue but not the dieing like you describe

 

The IAC is the most likely cause for the stalling. If the engine keeps running with your foot on the gas but stall once you take it off, it's the IAC. Replace it, don't waste your time cleaning it. You guys the clean stuff are only postponing the failure of the part by a couple days.

 

Thats the couple of days it takes for a new one to come. Cleaning is a good way to cheaply rule it out or not unless he has a multi meter. I agree though. In the end, there's no substitute to replacing
